Cancel Your Flight.
Know Your Refund Options.
Plans change. Whether it's a personal emergency, a schedule conflict, or simply the wrong ticket — Xpedioair contacts your airline to request your cancellation and asks about the refund, travel credit or fee waiver your fare allows. The airline makes the final decision.
✅ If your airline cancelled your flight, you do not need to pay anyone for a refund
If an airline cancels your flight or makes a significant change and you choose not to travel, U.S. rules generally entitle you to a refund to your original form of payment, and airlines are expected to issue it without you having to pay for help. You can claim it directly from the airline at no charge. See the U.S. DOT refund guidance ↗.
Xpedioair is for travelers who want us to handle a cancellation, fee-waiver request or credit with the airline for them. If your airline is the one that cancelled, we recommend asking the airline for your refund first.
💵 The DOT 24-Hour Free Cancellation Rule
This is the most important rule every U.S. traveler should know. Under Department of Transportation regulations, all U.S. airlines must provide a full refund to the original payment method if you cancel within 24 hours of booking — as long as the flight is at least 7 days away. This applies to every fare type, including Basic Economy.
✅ Booked in the last 24 hours? You qualify for a full refund right now. Submit a cancellation request promptly — this window is time-sensitive.
After 24 hours, refund options depend on your fare type and airline policy. Xpedioair asks the airline about available waivers before requesting a fee-based cancellation.
💳 Types of Airline Refunds
🛡️ Waivers We Ask About
Where the airline's policy allows, we ask about the following to reduce or remove cancellation fees. Approval is up to the airline:
- DOT 24-hour rule: Full refund if booked within the last 24 hours
- Airline-initiated changes: If your airline changed your schedule by 2+ hours, you may be entitled to a full refund even on non-refundable tickets
- Bereavement waiver: Death of an immediate family member — most airlines waive fees
- Medical emergency waiver: Serious illness with a doctor's note
- Military deployment: Active duty orders qualify for fee waivers at all U.S. airlines
- Elite status: Airline frequent flyer status often includes reduced or waived cancellation fees
See our Compassion Exception Policy for details on qualifying for a waiver of Xpedioair's own service fee.
